Why Convert XLSX to CSV?
XLSX is a whole workbook: multiple sheets, formulas, formatting, the works. A lot of importers and data pipelines want none of that, just plain comma-separated rows they can parse without an Office library.
Flattening to CSV strips the workbook down to its data, evaluating formulas into their final values on the way out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I convert XLSX to CSV in the browser?
No. Reading the XLSX workbook format needs a real spreadsheet engine, so this pair runs in the desktop app through LibreOffice Calc, locally on your Mac. The browser tool handles CSV and TSV, just not XLSX input.
My workbook has several sheets. What happens?
CSV is a single-table format, so each sheet exports to its own CSV file. There is no way to pack multiple sheets into one CSV; that is a limit of the format, not the tool.
Do my formulas end up in the CSV?
No, and you would not want them to. Formulas are evaluated and only their computed values are written, so the CSV holds numbers and text, never =SUM(...).
Will formatting, colors, and merged cells survive?
No. CSV is plain text with zero styling, so colors, fonts, borders, and merged cells all fall away. If any of that matters, convert to PDF instead of CSV.
Is my file still private in the desktop app?
Yes. The desktop app converts with native engines on your Mac and works offline after a one-time activation check. Nothing is uploaded, in the browser or on desktop.
Flattening a folder of Excel workbooks?
Browsers handle CSV and TSV but not the XLSX workbook format, so this pair runs in the desktop app through LibreOffice Calc.
