What can go into a merge?
PDFs join page for page, in the order you add them. Text stays real text, so the merged file is still selectable and searchable.
Images come in as full pages, sized to match the document they are joining. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF all work, and HEIC works in Safari.
Merging is an edit, so it costs nothing to try. Downloading the finished file is the step that counts against your free conversion.
What a merge does not carry over
Bookmarks are not carried over. Pages, text, images and links all survive the merge, but a source file's outline does not.
Password-protected PDFs need the password removed before they can be merged.
Everything runs in this tab, so the combined size is what limits you rather than a page count. Up to about 80 MB is instant. Past that it slows down, and above 500 MB in one document the merge is refused rather than left to crash the tab. The Mac app has no such ceiling.
How do I merge PDF files?
Open the first PDF above, click Add PDF or image to bring in the rest, drag the pages into the order you want, then download the combined file.
Can I merge PDFs without uploading them?
Yes. TeraConvert runs in your browser and your files are not sent anywhere to be merged. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the internet and finish the job.
Can I combine a PDF and a photo?
Yes. Add an image the same way you add a PDF and it becomes a full page, sized to match the document it is joining.
How many files can I merge at once?
As many as you like, up to about 500 MB of files in one document. Under 80 MB the merge is instant; a few hundred megabytes takes noticeably longer, because the whole document is held in memory while it is assembled. Past 500 MB the merge is refused instead of freezing your tab, and the Mac app handles it without the ceiling.
Can I change the page order after merging?
Yes. Every page sits in a grid you can drag. You can also rotate a page, delete one, or duplicate it before you download.
Does merging keep bookmarks?
No. Pages, text, images and links come through, but the outline from each source file does not.
Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
Not while it is protected. Remove the password first, then merge.
Is the merged PDF still searchable?
Yes. Text pages keep their real text layer, so the combined file stays selectable and searchable. Pages that came from photos are images, the same as they were before.
How do I merge PDFs on a Mac?
Open them here in Safari, Chrome or any modern browser and download the merged file. There is also a native Mac app for working offline and on large documents.
