Why Convert JFIF to JPG?

A JFIF file is a JPEG. Same data, same compression.

The only difference is an extension that Windows sometimes assigns when you save a picture from the web, and it causes real trouble: Instagram, most upload forms, and plenty of apps check the extension instead of the contents, so a perfectly good image gets rejected for saying .jfif. Convert to .jpg and those same tools accept the exact photo they just refused.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is JFIF really the same as JPG?
For everyday purposes, yes. Both hold JPEG-compressed image data; the difference is the file extension and a small header detail. That is exactly why the fix is so quick.
Will I lose any quality?
There is no reason to re-compress, so the visible image stays the same. You are changing the container the JPEG data sits in, not re-encoding the photo.
Can't I just rename .jfif to .jpg?
Often that works, since the data is already JPEG. It fails when the file's internal header still trips a strict validator, which is when running it through a real converter is the reliable path.
Why did Windows save my photo as JFIF?
A Windows registry quirk makes some systems write JPEGs with the .jfif extension by default. It is a known annoyance, not a sign anything is wrong with the image.
Is my file still private in the desktop app?
Yes. The desktop app converts with native engines on your Mac and works offline after a one-time activation check. Nothing is uploaded, in the browser or on desktop.

A folder full of .jfif files from Windows?

TeraConvert Desktop renames and re-saves a whole batch of JFIF images as JPG at once, offline on your Mac.
