Why Convert BMP to JPG?

BMP stores every pixel raw, which is why a file that would be a few hundred kilobytes as JPG arrives as a multi-megabyte brick nobody can email. Converting cuts that dramatically.

The image looks the same; the file stops being a problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are BMP files so large?
BMP stores every pixel as raw color data with no compression. A 1920x1080 BMP file is approximately 6 MB; the same image as JPG at quality 85 is under 500 KB.
Does converting BMP to JPG lose quality?
Yes. JPG uses lossy compression, discarding some pixel data. At quality 85 or higher, the difference is imperceptible for most photos and graphics.
Does BMP support transparency?
Mostly not. Standard 24-bit BMP has no alpha channel, and JPG has none either, so nothing is lost in the move.
What created the BMP files I need to convert?
Windows Paint, mostly. Older Windows applications and screenshot tools write BMP by default, and it lingers in legacy industrial and medical imaging systems that nobody wants to touch.
Is my file private?
Yes. The conversion runs in your browser tab and nothing is uploaded, so your files never leave your device. The only limit is size: 25 MB for this format. Bigger files route to the desktop app.
